This owns so much. Thanks for sharing.

Where can I sign up for the draft? Thanks for this, Mark. See you in the trenches dude.

I think the problem is that everybody has become complacent and apathetic and that perceived happiness seems to go hand in hand with willful ignorance. This unfortunate new standard turns *everything* to shit. For both the people who adopt it and the people who fight it. While I have no doubt, (absolutely no doubt – as I’ve witnessed first hand & from what I’ve gleaned from our discussions in person) how terrible the music industry can be at times, it goes beyond that and seems to encompass everybody AND everything we consume & interact with in the media, arts, job market, etc.

I’m still amazed at how much passion you have for what you do and how much compassion you have for the industry you’ve involved with (though I hate to keep saying “industry”). Have no doubt that your words & music inspire others (at least me) to keep fighting the good fight. No matter how tiresome and crushing it can be at times.

That “fuck jocks” mentality, at least for me, extends to everything in my life. My job, my friends and acquaintances, hell, even as a I walk down the street past bars and clubs. Though sadly it seems that even the jocks are the lesser evil compared to other things.

Anyway I’ve been drinking tonight, as I write this comment, and just came back from a show at the Horseshoe Tavern where I once saw you open for Nathaniel Mayer. For some reason I was reminded of that night and decided to open your webpage & see what you were up to.

I’m half an hour into the mp3 as I post this and I love it. I still love it! I’ve heard all your songs countless times, seen you live & toured with you more than most people on this planet and I still get charged and inspired by your music.

Keep that in mind, Mark. You have made a difference in other people’s lives, and that goes over & above what you may have truly considered as an accomplishment or mark left on this world.

Not that you even seem to think in those terms, but maybe from time to time you should.

  • This alternate history wears like an ill-fitting shirt on the music’s eternal being, the tastemakers using prefab iconography for their own gain, and the inherent naiveté of the music itself and its players as their pop-culture ammunition.

Sir, do you realize what you have started here? In three words, a word virus, and by “word”, I really mean “words”, your words, thee aforementioned above should embarrass/infect every single person involved, including myself, for calling people out on their shit. History will make this essay prophetic and the gospel of this rock and/or roll aesthetic will forever be embedded in music pantheon…que viva musica!

When you come to San Diego my goils and I will buy you a burrito from Pokez!

This is some of the stupidest shit I’ve ever read.

  • admin:

shum – if this really bothers you or really is some of the stupidest shit you ever read, you don’t read much or are insulted by something. i can’t help either of those. you may not agree at all, but it’s not stupid, nor is it 100% serious. some of the points are valid… and some are ridiculous. i know some people really dislike me, and i am all for that. i don’t think musicians should try to be your friends. i have my own thoughts, for good or for bad. i also like to fuck with people. i also don’t care if you like me or not.
